Second Book Blogger Review of Slate!
JP at Elle Lit just posted a 4 out of 5 review of my debut novel Slate! Here's an excerpt from her review...
"I loved this peek into the world of movie casting! In my younger (naive) days, I wanted to be a casting director myself. Brian Rowe ties his novel into the world of contemporary Hollywood, mentioning blockbuster films and name-dropping actors and directors alike. I especially enjoyed the parallel to The Women, a film used as a means to an end called The Men. The ins and outs of the casting world are believably and humorously portrayed.
Vivien is the ultimate alpha-bitch, but somehow Rowe manages to make her likeable as well. As a reader, I never knew quite what she would do when faced with her many challenges: would her anger explode or would she break down in tears? Often, her reactions included a little bit of both, with some humor thrown in, making her a sympathetic character even during her times of absolute rage. Rowe's other characters were always exciting to get to know; most characters were dynamic, each with their own emotions and motives.
All in all, this a great, fun read. The ending provides an interesting and somewhat terrifying twist, taking this novel a notch or two above fluffy chick-lit. I do wish the ending wouldn't have been quite so rushed only because I was enjoying reading the events unfold; I couldn't stop reading in the last 1/3 of the book because it was so intensely interesting!
I would like to thank author Brian Rowe for providing me with a copy of this book. It was a fantastically fun read! Can I just say the cover is fabulous as well?"

Final Revisions Begin On My Second Novel!
So even though my first eBook Slate was just released to Amazon and Barnes & Noble, with the print version coming in April, I'm hard at work on my second novel Happy Birthday To Me, which I've been working on since last August! While Slate is a women's fiction title, very adult, with sex, language, and some earth-shattering violence, Happy Birthday to Me is a light-hearteded fantasy comedy aimed at a teenage audience. It's been great fun to alternate between these two polar opposite genres, although I think astute readers will see the same voice in both.
So while I continue to plug Slate and wait with anticipation for all the book blogger reviews coming in the next 4-8 weeks, I figure it's in my best interest to keep writing and revising other projects! In February I completed my third manuscript, a horror novel called Townhouse, and last January I completed the third revision of Happy Birthday to Me. I'm very happy with this YA novel, and so now I've begun the final revision, which will take me into mid-April or so. And then in May, the eBook version of Happy Birthday to Me will be available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble!! It's an exciting time, and I can't wait for you all to not only take a look at Slate, but these two very special upcoming titles as well.
Stay tuned for more details...

First Book Blogger Review of Slate!!
Valentina over at Carabosse's Library is the first book blogger to review my debut novel, and she loved it!! Giving it 4 out of 5, this is an excerpt of what she had to say about it...
"I was surprised by this book. It was really fun, quick, punchy, with the aura of Hollywood enmeshed in its pages. The main character Vivien Slate is a powerhouse of laughs as she does whatever she can to get her way in every situation. Some scenes, like a classic purse fight with her husband, had me laughing out loud. She is surprisingly lovable, even in her maniacal selfishness.
I found myself captivated with the ins and outs of movie casting, learning a lot about how a movie comes together and making me very glad I never considered entering that world in any manner.
If you're looking for a good, fast read, one that is perfect for the beach or on vacation, this is an excellent choice."
Thanks again for your kind words, Valentina!

Townhouse is Done!
After writing a whopping 8,000 words last night (!) and then the final 3,000 words tonight, I'm excited to report that the first draft of my third manuscript TOWNHOUSE is officially done! The idea for this novel has been in my head for quite some time now, and I'm excited it's finally down on paper. While the manuscript's a mess--my first drafts always are!--I feel confident that there's a really strong book in those 78,000 words that I will excitedly start revising in the coming weeks.
In the meantime I'm working long hours every day revising my first manuscript SLATE to get it as perfect as I can for its launch on the Amazon Kindle next week! I'm hoping to be done with my final edits by Sunday night, and as early as Monday, the 14th, my very first novel will be available for the Kindle!! I'm so excited to release SLATE into the world. One more week!!!

Crazy Year
What a whirlwind year it's been. So much work, so much change, and so much fun. To think a year ago this week I was still revising my umpteenth screenplay, not having yet put a word down on a single novel, frustrated about my job, wondering where the next few months would take me.
Now, here I am in March of 2011, hovering over my keyboard as I finish my third manuscript Townhouse. I've been working super hard day after day trying to perfect my first two books Slate and Happy Birthday to Me, and after many months of intensive labor, I'm close to unleashing these manuscripts into the world. Most of the people who know me (and even those who don't) see me more as a filmmaker than as an author. But I'm hoping for all that to change this year, as I use CreateSpace and the Amazon Kindle to finally bring my brand new written work to light.
My first book Slate, set in the world of film casting, will be published first in the next few weeks, with Happy Birthday to Me coming a couple months later, probably in June. And then my third book Townhouse should be released sometime in either August or September. I'm so excited to see if readers around the world will respond to the plots and characters of my stories. Right now I'm in the dark. In a few weeks... well... we shall see.
Get ready, everybody. Slate is coming!
